Humble Beginnings...
It all started as a jam session between local musicians in a restaurant. Starting late at night so they wouldn't bother the dinner crowd too much. Moving chairs and tables themselves to make a Frankenstein sound system out of various musician’s personal amps, chords (power/musical), and instruments. People donating their time and equipment just for the sake of making some sound together. This small jam quickly grew just from word of mouth, as did the need for structure. Turning into a showcase that included vendors, comedians, poets, and every genre in the Huntsville area. Out of necessity for infrastructure, we became a company with a mission we have followed since our first jam: be a community that empowers local artists, businesses, and individuals. We use our ticket sales and sponsorships to provide free services that help underdogs long-term, as well as give consistent work to the people providing the resources. Our venues, available resources, crowds, and fun continue to get Phatter with no signs of slowing down. We are a home and a facilitator for meaningful change and connection. We are made by underdogs, for underdogs. We are Phat Jam.
Our Mission is to be a community that empowers local underdogs.
Walking the walk, not talking the talk. We have 3 main ways we do this.
1. A monthly festival called Phat Jam featuring 12 bands, 9 other performing artists, and a vendors market.
2. Our publication “Phat Rag” can be found throughout the area, featuring this month’s Jammers, and other Huntsville area locals trying to make a living doing what they love.
3. We offer resources such as marketing, graphic design, coaching, content creation, photography, and more to the members of our community. Using sponsorships and ticket sales to give them out for free or at large discounts, while paying the service provider a fair rate.
